- I have not been able to document that Gertrude is the biological child of John and Caroline, but in the 1900 & 1910 census Caroline has had 1 child and it is living. I believe that chold is Gertrude. I have not found Gertrude in the 1900 census. According to the 1930 census, Gertrude was 24 when she married the first time and Samuel was 39. This would indicate that this is a first marriage for both.
