A descendent of Sarah Ann (Nye) & Elijah Gad Matheny.
Jean was in the Women's Army Corp (W.A.C.) for 3 years, beginning 22 May 1961 and ending 21 May 1964. On Discharge her rank was E-5. She was Specialist 5th Class; Personal Records-Payroll Clerk for 6 bases. She served her Basic training & schooling at Fort McClellan Annistan, Alabama and was then assigned to Signal Corp. Fort Myer Arlington, Virginia & Naval Building on Constitution Avenue Washington, D.C.. She was stationed there when President John F. Kennedy was assassinated and buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
